Volunteer Round-up

(Corpus Christi, TX) It’s time to flashback to an era of coke floats, hot dogs and music that can only be described at the Fabulous 50’s. Driscoll Children's Hospital Auxiliary is twisting up some great fun and excitement that comes to being a part of a rewarding team of volunteers in their 11th Annual Roundup. This group is hosting a Fabulous 50’s Recruitment Rally for those retired, in the work force, college students and teens who want to make a difference in the lives of children.

Since 1952, Driscoll’s Auxiliary has contributed thousands of hours throughout the hospital. Each volunteer proving their service is needed and wanted and showing patients there is a place in their hearts for everyone.

OPPORTUNITES INCLUDE:

  • GIFT SHOP-selling, merchandising, stocking shelves, and creating balloon bouquets
  • CHILD LIFE PLAYROOM-work directly with hospital patients and making a child’s stay as comfortable as possible.
  • ROOM SERVICE-deliver special items to patients
  • TOY DISTRIBUTION-delivering free, donated toys to patients
  • COTTAGE SHOP- actively involved in serving for free-standing resale shop located on campus.
  • SURGICAL WAITING-provide links of communication between patient families and staff
  • TOURS- help escort visiting community groups including clowns, athletes
  • INFORMATION DESK-offer general hospital information, directions and offer assistance to families and visitors
  • ONCOLOGY CLINIC-work directly with patients, keeping them occupied with reading, playing games, working puzzles and coloring.
  • RONALD MCDONALD HOUSE-work with families in the 25-room accommodations for those families who live out of the community whose children are seeking treatment at Driscoll Children's Hospital.

Since opening its doors in 1953, Driscoll Children’s Hospital has been offering hope and healing to the children of South Texas for half a century. The facility is a 189-bed pediatric tertiary care center with pediatric board-certified specialists representing 19 medical and nine surgical specialties. Each year, more than 6,000 children are admitted for inpatient care, 5,000 for day surgery, and 50,000 for outpatient primary and specialty care, as well as 40,000 for emergency care, as the first South Texas hospital with emergency services exclusively for children. Additionally, Driscoll maintains a state-of-the-art ground/air transport team, 20-bed pediatric intensive care unit, 40-bed neonatal intensive care unit, and specialized medical outreach.
