(Corpus Christi, TX) In a recent announcement by the “Best Doctors of America” 2005-2006, one of Driscoll Children’s Hospital’s own has been recognized. The database is comprised from a survey of thousands of physicians in over 400 sub-specialties.

Dr. Alexandre T. Rotta has received the honor and Driscoll Children’s Hospital is pleased to have him on the staff. Dr. Rotta joined the Hospital in 2004 after nine years as faculty at the State University of New York at Buffalo and at the Woman and Children’s Hospital of Buffalo.

Dr. Rotta has received numerous national and international awards, including the prestigious World Federation of Pediatric Intensive and Critical Care Societies’ Young Investigator Award.
He has given over 150 presentations throughout the United States and abroad about his research on acute lung injury, mechanical ventilation and liquid breathing. He has also authored numerous original research articles and book chapters and is the inventor on U.S. and International patents in the field of liquid breathing.

He is currently an Associate Professor of Anesthesiology at the University of Texas Medical Branch and a Pediatric Intensivist at Driscoll Children’s Hospital. He practices Pediatric Critical Care side by side with five of his associates in a busy tertiary referral unit dealing with all aspects of critical and life-threatening pediatric illnesses.

Since opening its doors in 1953, Driscoll Children’s Hospital has been offering hope and healing to the children of South Texas for half a century. The facility is a 189-bed pediatric tertiary care center with pediatric board-certified specialists representing 19 medical and nine surgical specialties. Each year, more than 6,000 children are admitted for inpatient care, 5,000 for day surgery, and 50,000 for outpatient primary and specialty care, as well as 40,000 for emergency care, as the first South Texas hospital with emergency services exclusively for children. Additionally, Driscoll maintains a state-of-the-art ground/air transport team, 20-bed pediatric intensive care unit, 40-bed neonatal intensive care unit, and specialized medical outreach.
