(Corpus Christi, TX) The 14-year-long tradition of good music, good food, and good friends joining together to help the children of South Texas continues! As one of the oldest and most successful charity event in South Texas, presented by Flint Hills Resources, the 15th Annual Fiesta de los Ninos will take place on Friday, February 2, 2007 at the American Bank Center in Corpus Christi, Texas. The evening’s festivities will include Texas barbecue, silent, blackboard and live auction, as well as entertainment by legendary country singer Mel Tillis. Proceeds from the evening’s event are earmarked for Driscoll Children’s Hospital’s new CT Scanner and Catheterization Lab.

“Each year, Fiesta de los Ninos generates thousands of dollars to one of the patient programs at Driscoll Children’s Hospital,” said Rick Merrill, President and Chief Executive Officer, Driscoll Children’s Hospital. “This year a new CT Scanner and Catheterization Lab will benefit thanks in part again to Flint Hill’s Resources as the event’s first and strongest sponsor.”

“Flint Hills Resources remains committed to this important event that has raised more than $3 million for Driscoll Children’s hospital,” said Dave Allen, Vice President of Manufacturing, Flint Hills Resources and Corpus Christi Complex Manager. “We salute outstanding services the hospital provides – including many that are not available anywhere else in this region.”

Mel Tillis Performs! (www.meltillis.com)
Country music legend, Mel Tillis, started performing in the early ‘50’s with a group called The Westerners while serving as a baker in the United States Air Force, stationed in Okinawa. In 1956, Webb Pierce recorded a song written by Mel entitled “I’m Tired”, and it launched Mel’s musical career.

In 1976, Mel Tillis was inducted into the Nashville Songwriters International Hall of Fame, and that same year, he was named Country Music Association’s (CMA) Entertainer of the Year. Also, for six years in the 70’s, Mel Tillis won Comedian of the Year. On September 21, 1999, Broadcast Music, Inc. (BMI) named Mel Tillis the Songwriter of the Decade for two decades. Most recently, Mel was the recipient of the Golden Voice Entertainer Award for 2001. He also won the 2001 Golden R.O.P.E. Songwriter Award.

Mel has written well over 1,000 songs, and approximately 600 have been recorded by major artists. Two of his most well known hits: “Ruby, Don’t Take your Love to Town ” and “Coca Cola Cowboy.”

CT Scanner and Catheterization Lab - Funds raised from this year’s Fiesta de los Ninos will benefit Driscoll’s new CT Scanner and Children’s Catheterization (Cath Lab) Suite. Driscoll Currently has the only Pediatric Heart Cath Lab in South Texas exclusively serving children. The new Children’s Cath Suite will offer the latest technology that will enable more children with life threatening heart defects to delay or completely avoid more invasive surgeries.
The new CT Scanner will revolutionize the quality of care that Driscoll Children’s Hospital can give the children of South Texas by providing the most accurate, reliable, safe and cost effective non-invasive diagnostic imaging procedures. It will allow more images of more children that require fewer retakes, expose the children to less radiation, and produce more detailed, accurate diagnostic images that are 64 times the number of images per exposure than is currently available.
