Guidelines for Fourth Year Rotations
at Driscoll Children's Hospital


Fourth-year electives are not offered in June or July due to Resident Graduation and Orientation.

Texas A&M Health Science Center
College of Medicine Students



Texas A&M Health Science Center College of Medicine students can initiate the process for fourth-year rotations in April by contacting the Medical Student Coordinator via email. Please include name of rotation and the dates of your request. If your rotation is approved, you can inquire about housing 30 days prior to the rotation date. We are considered an "on campus" rotation for TAMHSC and can be found in the A&M Catalog for fourth-year rotations.

University of North Texas
College of Osteopathic Medicine Students



TCOM students can apply for rotations through VSAS in May 2015. Rotations at Driscoll Children's Hospital meet on-campus requirements for TCOM students.

Audition Rotations and Visiting Students


AUDITION ROTATIONS are processed through the Visiting Student Application Service (VSAS), which can be found on the American Association of Medical Students website beginning May 1, 2015. We are listed under TAMHSC-Driscoll Children's Hosp.

Late September, October, November and December are the peak months for audition rotations. Students who have been invited to interview through the ERAS program can request an audition rotation around the time of their interview.

Minimum requirements for application to Driscoll Children's Hospital Pediatric Residency Program:


1. Pass your USMLE/COMLEX step 1 on the first attempt.
2. Receive a score of 220 or above on the USMLE
3. Receive a score of 500 or above on the COMLEX exam.
4. Come from an LCME or AOA accredited institution.
5. You must apply through ERAS and be invited for an interview.

VISITING STUDENTS seeking an elective rotation at Driscoll Children's Hospital may apply through the VSAS program. If you are not seeking an audition rotation, you are encouraged to apply for a rotation after the audition season, in the spring of 2016.

  • Neonatology (NICU)*

Housing, Meals & Parking for 4th Year Medical Students


Housing is available for 4th year medical students on a limited basis. Students will also receive free parking and courtesy meals in our hospital cafeteria. When a rotation is approved, a student may contact the Medical Student Coordinator with a request for housing.

International Medical Students


Driscoll Children's Hospital does not have an International Medical Student Elective Program.

DCH Faculty may request a courtesy rotation on behalf of an international student. The Faculty Physician will act as that student's sponsor during the rotation. Please contact the Medical Education Coordinator to make the request. International students will be required to provide Proof of liability Insurance, Immunization records, Letter of Good Standing from their medical school, requirements for their rotation, an evaluation form and pass a background check.

Pre-Doc Shadowing for College Students


DCH Faculty may request a courtesy rotation on behalf of a college student. The Faculty Physician will act as that student's sponsor during the rotation. If the student will be spending more than 10 hours in our facility, approval from the Director of Medical Education will be required.

All rotations are subject to approval by the Department of Medical Education.
