Clayton, 7-years-old, Corpus Christi, Texas
PICU, Pediatric Gastroenterology, Pediatric Surgery
Clay was diagnosed with Hunter Syndrome by pediatric geneticist Dr. Raymond Lewandowski. The rare disease occurs when enzymes designed to destroy dead cells in the body are lacking. As a result, those cells cause deadly build-ups around the brain, spleen, liver, and kidneys. After undergoing enzyme replacement therapy for a year, Clay has grown three inches and many of his organs have shrunk to normal size.
